Ballastless track system RHEDA MRT: A lighter model for rugged jobs

In urban traffic operations track systems are expected to function effectively under rugged conditions. The RHEDA MRT ballastless track system, developed especially for applications in underground railways and surface commuter systems, easily masters high speeds and severe vibrations. Its basic principle is the same as that of the top product from RAIL.ONE, the RHEDA 2000®, the rail system designed for high speeds. RAIL.ONE has, however, adapted the individual components of the RHEDA MRT to meet the requirements of mass rapid transit. This means, for example, significant reduction in its installed structural height. Additional special characteristics of the RHEDA MRT include its monolithic type of construction, and its use of concrete bi-block sleepers. The system can also be executed as a light or heavy mass-spring system. For RHEDA MRT as well, turnouts represent no problem: RAIL.ONE offers effective turnout solutions in conformity with this product.

Turnouts and crossings

Special concrete turnout sleepers were developed to match the RHEDA MRT system. These allow for optimum compatibility between the track system and the sleeper as well as unproblematic installation at the same installed structural height. Solutions are also available in conformity with the respective system for transitions from ballastless to ballasted tracks: a seamless transition is ensured by an approximately 20 metre-long additional supporting rail for the purpose of stiffening the structure.

The third rail

In the case of underground transit, the electricity is often supplied to the trains via a third rail. In addition to the standard rail sleepers, RHEDA MRT has elongated electric rail support sleepers of which geometry can be adapted individually according to the respective project requirements. The third rail fixtures can be mounted directly and this makes its installation easier. Furthermore, this precise and safe solution dispenses with any further adjustments – maintenance and repair work and the concomitant costs are thus reduced.

The Madrid Metro

During night-time shutdowns, approx. 190 m of the RHEDA MRT ballastless track system were installed and concreted in place. Metro operation continued without restriction during the day, over the track sections being completed.

The Singapore Circle Line (CCL)

For construction of the Singapore Circle Line (CCL) underground network, RAIL.ONE delivered approx. 20,000 linear meters of turnout sleepers from the RHEDA MRT ballastless track system.
