Provision of elastic supporting for concrete sleepers represents a further measure for upgrading classical ballasted track systems. Emplacement of the elastic supporting into the fresh concrete creates a direct bond to the sleeper. This technique protects the ballast and achieves enhanced track elasticity. Concrete sleepers with elastic supporting are especially effective for installation on difficult, unsteady, or uneven foundations. These applications especially include high-performance track systems and sensitive transitions of the line between embankments and tunnels. Use of an elastic supporting can considerably upgrade a system with concrete sleepers on ballast. Maintenance costs are reduced, and track positioning is permanently improved.
