New concrete sleeper plant opens in Aschaffenburg

After ten months of construction, RAIL.ONE commences series production and grants access to the production site during the inauguration. The company will supply up to 600,000 concrete sleepers per year from its new plant in future.

Aschaffenburg (Germany), April 11, 2018 – With numerous signatures on the symbolic first series-produced B 70 sleeper from Aschaffenburg, RAIL.ONE, a group of companies based in Neumarkt, commenced operation of its new concrete sleeper plant in Aschaffenburg, Bavaria. In the presence of representatives from politics and business, a large number of neighbours and the staff from the new location, Jochen Riepl, Chief Executive Officer of PCM RAIL.ONE AG officially opened the plant: “Our new location is a very important addition to our other production facilities in Germany and is therefore important for the long-term success of our entire Group. We are still able to support our most important customer, Deutsche Bahn, with four locations. Upholding our tradition and our reputation, we will reliably supply high-quality products for new construction, expansion and maintenance of the German rail network from this plant as well.” Mr. Riepl is also delighted about the attendance of the Group’s Supervisory Board, which travelled all the way from India to celebrate the inauguration together with the invited guests. In his speech, partner and Chairman of the Supervisory Board Kamal Kumar Mittal agreed with his sentiments: “Today we are expanding our family with the most modern sleeper production plant and that fills me with pride. That we have come so far is another huge achievement by our team here in Germany. I congratulate you all.”
After almost three years of planning and construction, RAIL.ONE’s latest concrete sleeper plant marks an important milestone in the corporate strategy. With its large production capacity, a storage capacity of 120,000 sleepers and its central location, the site offers many advantages at once. The guests at the opening celebration gained an impression of the production process and the plant engineering during a tour on site.
In addition to the B 70 sleepers that are widely-used in Germany, the plant also produces numerous other types of main-track sleepers and products for German and European urban transit and mainline rail traffic. It supplements the three other German locations in Coswig, Kirchmöser and Neumarkt, each of which have their own specific production processes and product portfolios. Verena Moosburger, Managing Director of RAIL.ONE GmbH responsible for the German market, believes these plants also represent “key locations which account for RAIL.ONE’s flexibility and speed and complete the strategic positioning in the German market.”

Facts and figures on the Aschaffenburg plant:

  • Location: Limesstrasse 17, 63741 Aschaffenburg (Germany)
  • 35,000 square meters area
  • Production capacity: 600,000 concrete sleepers per year (up to 2,500 sleepers per day in a three-shift operation)
  • Storage capacity for 120,000 sleepers
  • Production processes: carousel late demoulding system with extensive automation technology
  • Products primarily for the German railway network

Expertise from Neumarkt for infrastructure for Winter Olympics in South Korea

Track system from RAIL.ONE used in major rail infrastructure project in South Korea. Railway line connects Incheon Airport, Seoul and the Olympic venues in the east of the country. The Winter Olympic Games start on 9 February and will last until 25 February.

Neumarkt (Germany), February 6, 2018 – Following the Summer Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988, South Korea is once again set to host an Olympic event. When the 23rd Winter Olympic Games launch in Pyeongchang, South Korea this week, Neumarkt-based company PCM RAIL.ONE AG will look with pride at the East Asian country. Working with its Joint Venture in South Korea, TM Track Systems Ltd., the experts for concrete sleepers and track systems produced and delivered a huge part of the route for the railway line from Incheon to Gangneung.
The RAIL.ONE RHEDA 2000® system has already been used regularly on numerous high-speed rail lines in South Korea since 2007. As part of the preparations for the Winter Olympics, RHEDA 2000® was chosen in 2013 for the connecting line between Incheon Airport Terminal 1 and the newly built Terminal 2. This was followed by the 126.3 km long track section from Wonju to Gangneung. Solutions from the PCM RAIL.ONE Group are used on 89.5 of the total 99.4 km long ballastless twin track system and allow rail traffic to operate in part at a maximum speed of 300 km/h. “We are highly flexible with our products and align them to the various needs locally. Since 2007, we have produced and delivered more than 2 million bi-block sleepers for the high-speed rail routes and national rail network in South Korea. We are proud to have made such an important contribution to the country's rail infrastructure and the networking of the Olympic venues,” says a delighted Jochen Riepl, CEO of PCM RAIL.ONE AG, looking forward to the launch of the Winter Olympic Games.
But even beyond that, the importance of the route is remarkable. As well as 53 bridges and six stations, the infrastructure project features a total of 34 tunnels, including the 21.7 km long Daegwallyeong Tunnel, the longest in South Korea.

Solutions by RAIL.ONE for the newly opened high-speed railway line Berlin - Munich

Official opening for Germany’s biggest rail infrastructure project. RAIL.ONE played a major role in the German Unity Transport Project 8 (VDE 8). New high-speed Berlin - Munich route capable of competing with air travel.

RAIL.ONE's main contribution to the EUR 10 billion transport project, which was approved by the German government in 1991, was its flexible RHEDA 2000® ballastless track system. As the project's sole supplier of concrete sleepers and track systems, RAIL.ONE is delivering high-speed turnout sleepers. In track sections 8.1 and 8.2, 42,350 linear meters of RHEDA 2000® turnout sleepers and around 20,000 main-track elastically supported sleepers guarantee cost-effective and ecological rail transport. Another technological rail system solution from RAIL.ONE was used on the Halle-Bitterfeld section, where 15,000 GETRAC A3 wide sleepers were laid on an asphalt base. For this section, RAIL.ONE also supplied a noise-absorbing covering developed in-house. As far back as 2005, more than 110,000 RHEDA 2000® bi-block sleepers from the Neumarkt-based Corporation formed the basis for the high-speed line Nuremberg - Ingolstadt.

Working closely together, both companies are committed to add value to the Swedish railway industry through localized production of solutions tailored to the particular requirements in Sweden. With more than 4,000 km of track installed, RAIL.ONE’s RHEDA 2000® system is one of the most widely applied solutions available today; for high-speed- as well as high-performance-lines. Its versatility and flexibility are some key success factors.

RAIL.ONE charts a course for the future at InnoTrans

Using the motto “Quality knows no limits,” the PCM RAIL.ONE Group showcased its entire portfolio of innovative track systems for rail transportation at the Berlin exhibition grounds from September 20 to 23. The Neumarkt-based conglomerate's completely redesigned booth was a popular meeting place at the biggest InnoTrans of all time.

Neumarkt/Berlin, September 27, 2016 – This year's InnoTrans underscored its importance as the leading fair for transportation technology by setting new records: 2,950 exhibitors, almost two-thirds of them traveling from outside Germany, presented their products and services to an interested trade audience. One of the attractions in Hall 26 was the new RAIL.ONE booth, which was adapted to reflect the company’s corporate design. With the help of innovative presentation software and high-quality discussions with representatives of the global subsidiaries, a large number of visitors learned more about products and reference projects in the field of modern rail track systems.

One particular draw at the booth was the full-size model of a hinged turnout sleeper. Developed in partnership with Deutsche Bahn, this innovation allows pre-assembled switch elements to be transported on regular freight cars, thus eliminating the need for costly special shipments by rail. The company intends to have more new products to showcase when InnoTrans opens its doors once again in two years (from September 18 to 21, 2018).

Track systems made by RAIL.ONE: international and innovative

The role of rail-based freight, commuter, and mainline transport around the world is growing. This boom is fueled in part by numerous international infrastructure projects in which the PCM RAIL.ONE Group – with over 60 years experience in the production of concrete sleepers and state-of-the-art track systems – is an important player. The company will be on hand at the InnoTrans transportation technology trade show to present reference projects and product innovations such as a sleeper with an integrated RFID chip.

Neumarkt/Berlin, 21 September 2016 – Those who build railway lines in countries such as South Korea, Saudi Arabia, and the United States must take into account totally different conditions of geography and climate. “RAIL.ONE is already on the ground at eleven facilities in eight countries, producing highprecision track systems and concrete sleepers to meet the unique requirements of a wide diversity of regions. This gives us the closest possible relationship to customers, so we can better understand their needs and respond accordingly,” remarks Torsten Bode, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer at the Neumarkt-based conglomerate, speaking at the InnoTrans transportation technology trade show in Berlin. The Managing Directors of all worldwide subsidiaries were on hand from day one of the event to provide the attending industry professionals with details on international business developments and current projects.

Numerous reference projects attest to the success of the global expansion strategy. In South Korea, the TM Track Systems Ltd. joint venture is producing and supplying most of the sleepers for the high-speed line from Wonju to Gangneung, which will form part of the “Olympic Line” slated for completion in 2017. This line is set to carry most of the passenger traffic for the Olympic winter games in Pyeongchang in February 2018. The ballastless track system will rely primarily on the RHEDA 2000® system, developed by RAIL.ONE and fieldtested around the world.

The Ha’il production site in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is running at capacity for the medium term with annual production of some 610,000 track sleepers and approximately 96,000 linear meters of turnout sleepers. The ballastless track technology and concrete heavy-haul sleepers for ballasted systems are intended primarily for completion of the key high-speed line connecting the pilgrimage cities of Medina and Mecca with connections to the economic center of Jeddah and for construction of what is currently Saudi Arabia’s largest railroad project, the 2,400-kilometer North-South Line.

RAIL.ONE is living up to its own ambitions as an innovation leader with a project in the United States. RFID chips are being embedded in the concrete of UP15 heavy-haul sleepers for quality assurance purposes, making it possible to permanently track data such as the production date and materials. Inserting the electronics makes it possible to reliably read out data and protect the technology from external influences.

RAIL.ONE at the InnoTrans 2016

RAIL.ONE will present itself at the InnoTrans Exhibition in Berlin in Hall 26, Booth 305. The InnoTrans is the leading trade show for transport technology and is taking place September 20-23, 2016. In addition to its comprehensive portfolio of modern track systems for rail transport, RAIL.ONE will focus on further internationalizing the company’s business fields.

Neumarkt/Berlin, August 30, 2016 – “The Future of Mobility” is the theme of this year’s InnoTrans. As a technology and quality leader in track systems and concrete sleepers, RAIL.ONE sees the future of mobility in a global context. That’s why the company is continuing its strategy of recent years to expand its global production facilities.

“Our goal is not just to provide the best quality for every application. We also aspire to accommodate specific customer needs, including regional variances such as climate, geography, and local standards in different parts of the world,” says Jochen Riepl, CEO of the group based in Neumarkt in the German state of Bavaria. This path is promising, as evidenced by any number of projects already completed in Germany, Saudi Arabia, Hungary, Romania, Turkey, and elsewhere in which customers have testified to the high quality of the track sleepers produced by RAIL.ONE.

At Booth 305 in Hall 26, RAIL.ONE will present its portfolio of railway sleepers and ballastless track systems for local, long-distance, and freight transport, along with plant construction and engineering services with newly designed interactive software that allows visitors to explore products and reference projects on their own.

At this year’s InnoTrans, representatives of all subsidiaries from various countries in Europe, Asia, and North America will be on hand to contribute and share their collected experiences. Schedule a personal meeting to learn more about product specifications and the requirements of local markets and industries.
