RAIL.ONE wins major contract for expansion of the commuter-rail network in the Nuremberg region

By 2011 Deutsche Bahn will invest more than one billion euros – RAIL.ONE will deliver around 40,000 concrete sleepers per year

Neumarkt, Germany, 3 December 2009 – RAIL.ONE Group, the internationally successful manufacturer of concrete sleepers and systems provider for railway track, will take part in extensive delivery business for concrete sleepers for expansion of the Nuremberg urban-transit railway system.

By the end of 2011, Deutsche Bahn will invest more than one billion euros in expansion and upgrading of the rail network in the Nuremberg region. Completion of this largest railway construction project in Bavaria will signify that the commuter rail network (S-Bahn) for the Nuremberg region will grow from 67 to more than 200 km – and that the city of Neumarkt will also be linked to Nuremberg, largest city in Franconia, by the expanded commuter system.

Focus on complex logistical requirements

During the entire period of this project, RAIL.ONE will deliver approximately 40,000 concrete sleepers from its plants in Neumarkt and Coswig, as well as from its logistics centre in Nuremberg – primarily for the rail sections from Nuremberg in the direction of the cities of Fürth, Lauf, and Regensburg. As Gundolf Spitzner, Senior Vice President of German Business at RAIL.ONE, explains, “Construction work on the rail lines and at the train stations will take place extensively while maintaining railway operations. This demands precise coordination of the logistics and production processes among the project partners involved, as well as precise satisfaction of delivery deadlines. We have already proved that we can perform at this quality level during numerous projects executed for Deutsche Bahn – including construction of the rail line linking Nuremberg, Ingolstadt, and Munich.
